Senior PHP Developer

Remote / Office is in Birmingham (travel once a month for collab)

Salary: £45k - £65k + share options

CX Squared are partnered with a community focused social platform tech company in the heart of Birmingham whom are looking to expand as they build in to Seed.

They want a Senior PHP Developer to join their tech team who loves the start-up vibe will not be put off by a problem but instead will lean into them.

Core Behaviors

  • Put The Users and Community Creators First.
  • Great communication - where no problem is too big. Being available and supportive to build relationships
  • Turn the complex, simple. Help take big ideas and make them seamless and fun for the people using technology
  • Collaborate across the team. Working together across functions helps everyone move fast. Together, let's use data and insight to drive changes for the betterment of the community
  • You love to problem solve. Present solutions not problems always, say how things could be done.
  • Test first, perfect later. Time is important to you. You lean towards MVPs rather than fully developed until validated
  • Always lean to Action. Even if there's doubt, put your best foot forwards and we'll figure it out as a team as we go
  • To fail is to learn. To learn is to succeed. Stay curious, have a passion for learning, self development, sharing, expressing views and have fun on the journey.

You would be a good fit for this role if you have most or all:

  • Have experience building large API platforms with a modern PHP framework such as Laravel or Symfony
  • Have experience with microservices and/or the gradual process of migrating a monolith to microservices
  • Are knowledgeable of the SDLC and are comfortable working closely with front end and app engineers to take a feature from concept through to maintenance
  • Can write clean, reusable and testable code based on SOLID principles
  • Work in an iterative way via continuous improvement
  • Have written production software utilising the 12 Factor App approach
  • Have experience with Git and Jira
  • Can accurately forecast the effort to deliver work (and/or identify unknowns that may make estimations difficult), and communicate the specifics clearly in non-technical language
  • Understand the unique demands faced by a small team in a startup company
  • Love taking ideas from inception through to development and deployment quickly, working with agile frameworks
  • Engage in a culture of continuous improvement by attending events such as book club, functional meet up, blameless post-mortems, architecture review, war games, hack days
  • You'll own your code through its entire lifecycle, including deployment to production

The following experience would also be beneficial, but are not hard requirements:

  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) Golang

Why this role might not be a good fit for you:

  • If you're not curious around the customer problems and ask questions
  • If you like tasks handed to you, rather than helping identify them yourself
  • If you don't like working within a distributed or remote team
  • If you're not always looking to self-develop and contribute to a team
  • If you aren't willing to get stuck in to day-to-day tasks to help the team
  • If data isn't your bag

Working hours

They embrace all working styles and appreciate that traditional working hours are not inclusive for everyone. They work 8 hours a day (plus one hour for lunch) and offer flexitime if you have commitments in the morning or afternoon such as school drop-offs.

Benefits

  • Fully remote position - we do have an office too for occasional team meetings and potential working arrangements
  • MacBook Pro with additional monitor
  • Budget for conferences and training
  • Pension
  • Monthly stipend to cover a subscription of your choosing, such as Spotify, Netflix or a gym membership
