Role: PHP Developer

Framework: Any - e.g. Laravel, Yii, Symfony.

Salary: £35k - £60k

Industry: Digital Agency and Product Design

Working: FULLY REMOTE - can consider people based in Europe.

CX Squared have the honour of working with one of Birmingham's best digital and product agency's in the region. It's our role as their talent partner, to shout about their culture and help build their back-end development team. This team is responsible for designing, building and optimising digital products and services for a multitude of different brands and organisations.

Projects:

This might range from a proof-of-concept demo or a single sprint MVP build to a custom API that powers mobile and web apps, to a fully CMS driven website or internationally distributed cloud based system. The beauty of the role is that you will be fully involved with every step from the ideation, scoping and design, through to ensuring that products are delivered to match the agreed functionality, spec and finish.

The role
Their fleet of websites are primarily PHP based, using either WordPress or Laravel. This consists of APIs and Headless Content management systems that provide data and services to their React applications built with Next.js.

Your role will be vital to their customer projects and you will need to have both strong backend skills - ideally in PHP - to build websites and applications.

In this role, you'll find yourself:

  • Planning, designing and implementing multi-layered web applications using a suitable PHP framework.
  • Building CMS Applications within Laravel, Nova or any other suitable open source framework
  • Playing an active role in a fully Agile team, based around the Scrum framework
  • Creating deployments for microservice applications
  • Creating and networking with public and private REST APIs
  • Writing modular, configurable, reusable, DRY PHP
  • Explaining concepts and ideas to non-technical users
  • Mentoring more junior members of the engineering team

Your Experience:

  • Experience architecting systems from the ground up (dedicated and cloud, database design and data flow)
  • Core proficiency with PHP and a familiarity with other languages
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the git version control system from time within at least a mid sized team (branching/pull requests etc)
  • Experience working collaboratively within product teams
  • Experience architecting and deploying production applications
  • Experience maintaining codebases to ensure they are resilient (error handling, knowing when to refactor)
  • Performed in a senior role within a development team, actively contributing to the development of other individuals through mentoring, coaching or pair programming
  • Could demonstrate knowledge of the React framework - nice to have
  • Experience of other Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google - nice to have.

There are many PHP Developer roles out there, but not many to work with an organisation who have carved their own reputation through brilliant code, applications and products over the years. The people in this business have ben there for years, and people rarely leave, because they feel the love.
