Java Application Support Engineer

Location: Birmingham, West Midlands

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

CX Squared have been asked to build a brand new product engineering team which currently stands at one CTO, to a team of 12 in the next 6 months.

One of the first key strategic hires will be a Application Java Support Engineer, who will have a career opportunity to become Head of Applications as that team grows.

Due to the nature of this new team, the dynamics and culture are very important and therefore they are seeking for someone to be based in the office predominantly for the first 3-6 months and then they will be look to go to hybrid working.

Job Overview:

An experienced, hands on, L2/ L3 Application Support Engineer responsible for 3rd line technical support analysts, promoting best practices, processes, and standards, providing technical leadership wherever necessary.

In addition, provide visible leadership of software incidents, maintain good lines of communication with all your stakeholders from client support, onward to development and operation teams through to the Leadership Team, managing issues through to conclusion, ensuring lessons are understood and applied.

Technical stack:

Our legacy application is built using technology such as Java, Node.js, (VB) web forms and MVC Frameworks in IDE such as Visual Studio, Eclipse, IntelliJ, STS etc. with DB as MS SQL, PostGres database and a combination of Javascript, JQuery, JSON and React. We are however upgrading to the old stacks to newer frameworks, versions and hosting on an AWS framework cloud solution.

Support cases are managed using tools such as ServiceCloud in Salesforce, Jira ServiceDesk with development tasks escalated in Jira & Confluence.

What you will do:

  • Assist Customer Support staff with resolving customer issues
  • Prioritize the reported bugs and Issues in P1/ P2/ P3
  • Provide internal guidance and training on the application and technical environment
  • Manage critical and highly sensitive issues to resolution
  • Stay current with company products, initiatives, and trends in the healthcare industry
  • Analyse workload and recommend improvements
  • Continually enhance the teams' skills around issue resolution, client satisfaction, and troubleshooting
  • Ensure you adhere to SLA's
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to help others, lead and facilitate change
  • Contribute to team performance to achieve key performance metrics related to productivity and satisfaction
  • Work on special projects, as assigned

What we are looking for:

  • Deep Knowledge and understanding of current Tech Stacks but not limiting to Java, Node.js, (VB) web forms and MVC Frameworks
  • The person is using IDE such as Visual Studio, Eclipse, IntelliJ, STS etc.
  • The person knows and understanding DB's as MS SQL, PostGres database
  • Act as an L2/ L3 Engineer based upon the need and situation and can fix the bugs/ issues him/ her self without involving the Development team
  • Good to have worked with Mobile Technology and on Android and iOS Applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to interact and influence at all levels in the organization, able to discuss technical issues with non-technical colleagues
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, good understanding of root cause analysis tooling, and a strong desire to understand the detail
  • Keen to learn, demonstrates a passion for gaining new skills, experience, and knowledge
  • To be a lateral thinker who displays an ability to think ahead and anticipate problems, issues, and solutions
  • Cool under pressure especially firefighting and triaging fluctuating levels of support incidents and requests
  • Willingness to lead by example and get your hands dirty at the technical support coal face
  • A good level of Microsoft SQL knowledge including writing stored procedures and advanced data selection queries
  • Relevant qualifications in Technical or Business discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 5 - 7 years in the software industry with ideally a technical background
  • Experience debugging code using developer tools and Visual Studio would be beneficial. As would IIS hosting configuration, domain configuration and SFTP.
